Dive Brief:
- The city of Phoenix has named ABM as the primary janitorial cleaning services provider for its three airports.
- The five-year $25 million contract covers 4.8 million square feet of space across Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Deer Valley Airport and Goodyear Airport, according to a news release Tuesday. ABM will focus on improving operations and passenger experience, while driving environmentally sustainable practices, the company said.
- ABM said that it is poised to meet and exceed Phoenix Sky Harbor’s short- and long-term sustainability goals through “innovative technologies and a dedicated team to deliver a five-star level of cleanliness” that can elevate overall travel experience. ABM provides cleaning services to a number of large domestic and international airports, creating a “clean, healthy and world-class experience for 28 of the top 30 busiest airports in the U.S.,” Sean Bromfield, president of aviation at ABM, said in the release.
Dive Insight:
Airports are increasingly turning to technology integrations to meet day-to-day operational needs, improve cleanliness and facilitate upgrades, with airports, like the George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, channeling funds from the bipartisan infrastructure law toward upgrading restrooms, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The three airports in Phoenix are significant economic engines for Arizona, ABM said in the release. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, for example, has an annual economic impact of over $38 billion and is funded with airport revenue rather than tax dollars, according to its website. Close to 49 million travelers pass through the airport, which has been dubbed “America’s friendliest airport,” each year, per the release. The moniker is a result of its “standards for cleanliness and customer satisfaction,” ABM said.
ABM says it provides integrated facility services, infrastructure solutions and parking management to over 20,000 clients across industries from commercial office buildings, government buildings and data centers to airports and hospitals. These services cover janitorial, engineering, electrical, lighting, energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, HVAC and mechanical, landscape and turf services and other mission-critical solutions, the firm said.
The company’s existing clients include LaGuardia Gateway Partners, the developer and manager of LaGuardia Airport Terminal B where it provides integrated facility services. Other ABM services that aim to improve passenger experience in airports include an integrated smart parking solution that can alleviate the process of finding guest parking in airports, according to a news release issued last April.
"ABM's proven track record in delivering best-in-class quality service that is data-enabled and integrated with airport operations,” Bromfield said in Tuesday’s release, noting a record-breaking number of passengers for the airports last year.
