The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers has called for comments as part of a public review of multiple standard addenda, according to a release.
These include addenda to:
- ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 15-2022, Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems
- BSR/ASHRAE Standard 160-2021, Control Design Analysis in Buildings
- BSR/ASHRAE/ASPE/AWWA Standard 191P, Standard for the Efficient Use of Water in Building Mechanical Systems
The addendum to Standard 15-2022, Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems, is a first publication public review and proposes removing the terms “human comfort” and “other than human comfort” from the standard. The push to remove both terms stems from reasoning that these terms are undefined and inadequate in describing the types of systems they intend to cover.
ASHRAE has also added informative notes to provide context on product safety standards and the types of equipment in question. Further, Sections 7.5, 7.6, 7.7 and 7.8 are being rewritten to clarify the specific application types they pertain to and improve consistency in approach.
Standard 160-2021’s addendum, Control Design Analysis in Buildings, includes changes to improve organization and clarity of Section 7 (reporting) and to add commentary that references ASTM E3054/E3054M-16. Both Standard 160-2021's and 15-2022’s addenda are open for a 30-day public review period that ends August 20.
BSR/ASHRAE/ASPE/AWWA Standard 191P, Standard for the Efficient Use of Water in Building Mechanical Systems, is in the fourth ISC public review draft process. This standard includes an addendum to document comprehensive water balance and define baseline requirements for the efficient use of water in mechanical and process systems. The review for this standard is open through September 4.
In addition to requests for comments on these addenda, ASHRAE announced a list of project committee interim meetings set to take place in the coming month. These include:
- August 21, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET: SPC 129-1997R, Measuring Air-Change Effectiveness (virtual web meeting)
- July 31, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET: SSPC 30, Method of Testing Liquid Chillers (web meeting)
- August 16, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET: SSPC 205, Representation of Performance Data for HVAC&R and Other Facility Equipment (virtual meeting)
ASHRAE also stated it has published a new errata sheet for ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 15-2022, Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems. This sheet, dated July 17, 2023, replaces the previous one posted on May 30, 2023.
