Dive Insight:
Demand response programs, which provide large energy users with payments for reducing their use of electricity from the grid during periods of high demand, help cut emissions, reduce load on the grid and eliminate the need for costly equipment upgrades, according to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Facilities can potentially lower their energy bill and receive additional revenue for their participation.
According to Catalyst’s website, participants always receive 24 hours’ notice of a request for energy curtailment “to allow for necessary adjustments.” Participation requires an hourly interval meter, which Catalyst may install, and participants must go through curtailment testing before they can enroll.
Catalyst Power, an integrated clean energy solutions provider, says it specializes in developing energy supply solutions for commercial and industrial enterprises. Beyond demand response, these solutions include on-site solar and storage, connected microgrids, EV charging, and rooftop and land leasing.
Demand response programs are not merely about energy conservation, Catalyst Power Holdings CEO Gabriel Phillips said in the release. Rather, they help businesses realize “significant savings through New York’s clean energy incentive programs,” Phillips said, adding that businesses can also apply to federal programs that provide incentives for solar, storage, EV charging, demand response and other solutions.
