Dive Brief:
- The U.S. General Services Administration has selected JLL and Corg Management Group to provide integrated facilities management services for 22 of its facilities.
- JLL’s government facility management group, in concert with Corg, will provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems repair, maintenance and small project work for seven GSA buildings and one parking garage in Atlanta as well as 13 buildings and a parking garage in the South Carolina cities of Aiken, Anderson, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville and Spartanburg, according to a news release Thursday.
- JLL has previously highlighted the need for federal agencies to upgrade existing facilities by performing essential repairs and providing amenity-rich workplaces that rival private-sector offerings. The facilities management contract with GSA focuses on customized preventive maintenance and operational efficiencies that will generate cost savings while increasing small business participation through the arrangement with Corg, the real estate services firm said.
Dive Insight:
Budgets for federal government facilities increased just 7.8% from 2020 to 2023, JLL said in a 2023 report. As the result of return-to-office mandates, federal agencies need to improve facilities and add amenities to compete with the private sector, JLL said in the report.
JLL and Corg’s approach will ensure optimal facility management performance and a focus on sustainability and compliance with government initiatives, JLL said in the release. JLL Executive Director of Solutions Development De’Von Williams will work to ensure alignment with government requests for proposals, per the release.
JLL’s arrangement with Corg will help GSA increase its small business participation and implement “best practices related to various processes and programs,” JLL Senior Vice President Kameshia Freeman, who will manage the relationship with GSA, said in a statement.
The focus on small business inclusion aligns with GSA’s initiatives to promote small business involvement in federal contracts. The agency’s building maintenance and operations sourcing strategy, for instance, adopts a zonal approach to create regions where small businesses can effectively compete for and fulfill contracts, according to an overview of the program. The 10-year strategy has both unrestricted and small business set-aside programs, allowing large and small business involvement, GSA says.
JLL Managing Director Monique Derrick, who is leading JLL’s efforts for GSA, said in a statement that the real estate services firm’s collaboration with Corg “specifically aligns with the government’s requirements and enables us to deliver mission-critical facilities management services to GSA.” Derrick also pointed to an intent to mentor small businesses “to deliver superior services for our clients.”
Corg is an Atlanta-based, woman-owned business with services that include aspects of facilities maintenance, such as janitorial and cleaning services; plumbing, heating and air conditioning; and facilities support services.
JLL’s government clientele include the U.S. Department of Energy for clean energy financing and the state of Tennessee for facility management outsourcing, according to its website.
