Dive Brief:
- FM:Systems is integrating NetZero Advisor, a sustainability analytics tool from parent company Johnson Controls’ OpenBlue smart building technology ecosystem, into its workplace analytics platform, the company said Thursday.
- The integration of NetZero Advisor into the FMS:Insights workplace analytics platform lets users combine office utilization and energy consumption data to optimize energy use, reduce costs and support their sustainability goals, FM:Systems said in a news release.
- "NetZero Advisor comes at a critical time, as organizations face growing pressure to meet environmental regulations while also prioritizing cost savings, occupant health and well-being, and the environmental impact of buildings," Julius Marchwicki, vice president of digital product management at Johnson Controls, said in a statement.
Dive Insight:
Legislation such as New York City’s Local Law 97 and Boston’s Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance reflect a growing emphasis on regulatory standards aimed at pushing carbon emission reduction and sustainability efforts across buildings, portfolios and properties.
Adding NetZero Advisor to FMS:Insights will facilitate timely and accurate reporting to help organizations meet regulatory compliance, FM:Systems said in the release.
The addition will “provide our clients with the insights and clarity needed” to navigate environmental regulations and “make informed, data-backed decisions” that can boost building efficiency, Marchwicki said.
NetZero Advisor allows users to measure, monitor and report their buildings’ carbon emissions, energy use and utility spend within a single dashboard, according to a fact sheet on the platform. Users can identify baseline energy and emissions performance to pinpoint savings opportunities, and ease the burden of disclosures, per the fact sheet, which notes that users can measure their savings by comparing baseline performance with targets and simplify the planning process for carbon reduction goals.
Johnson Controls acquired FM:Systems last year to ramp up the pace of building technologies that can help meet net-zero emissions targets and generate new opportunities in the smart buildings market. At the time, the company had stated plans to strengthen its OpenBlue platform with office dynamics and net-zero building capabilities.
Since Johnson Controls’ acquisition, the combined technologies of both companies aim to help large organizations create more efficient workspaces, Brian Hines, chief strategy officer at FM:Systems, said in the release. The NetZero Advisor integration allows businesses to leverage scalable workplace management solutions and smart building technologies to boost overall performance, Hines said.
